| Mocanaqua Fire Company Responds to Fatal Fire in Shickshinny Borough Mocanaqua, PA – September 13, 2025 — At approximately 3:48 a.m., the Mocanaqua Fire Company, along with other first-alarm units, was dispatched to South Main Street in Shickshinny Borough for a reported shed fire. Shortly after, Luzerne County 911 received additional reports of a working house fire with possible entrapment. The working fire assignment was re-dispatched, and a second alarm was struck at 3:53 a.m. First-arriving crews from Mocanaqua encountered heavy fire and smoke conditions. Firefighters immediately began suppression efforts and initiated a primary search of the residence. During operations, one male occupant was located and tragically pronounced deceased as a result of the fire. The fire was placed under control after approximately two hours with assistance from multiple surrounding fire departments. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal’s Office. No further details are available at this time. The Mocanaqua Fire Company extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones impacted by this tragedy.
