| On the evening of September 28, Mocanaqua Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 was dispatched for a technical rescue involving an injured tree climber who had become entangled in climbing equipment while working in a tree above a steep embankment. The initial assignment, based on the technical rescue incident type, automatically included rescue resources from Nanticoke City Rescue 158 and Reliance Fire Company of Berwick Rescue 122, along with Pond Hill Fire Company and Geisinger EMS. Upon arrival, Mocanaqua Fire established Incident Command and began coordinating rescue operations. While specialized technical rescue resources were responding, Incident Command made the decision to utilize an experienced climber already on scene to ascend and make contact with the injured individual. The second climber successfully reached the individual and assisted with removing them from the tree. As operations continued, fire and rescue personnel assembled a rope lowering system utilizing a Stokes basket to overcome the steep and difficult terrain. Once the patient was removed from the tree, crews secured the patient in the Stokes basket and utilized the rope system to safely lower the patient down the embankment to awaiting EMS personnel for evaluation and treatment. |
